Mr. Wood founded has served as the President and CEO of High Arctic Energy Services since its inception in December 1993. Mr. Wood has been instrumental in High Arctic's consistent and dynamic growth worldwide. In recent years, Mr. Wood has focused on developing new snubbing and hydraulic workover technology for both the domestic and international markets. Today, High Arctic is recognized as one of the leaders of snubbing equipment in the world.
Mr. Wood has worked in the oil and gas industry for close to 30 years, with experience working in the Middle East, South America and Canada. Prior to starting High Arctic, Mr. Wood entered the oil and gas industry as a Roughneck and worked his way through the ranks to Rig Manager and, finally, Project Manager for an major oil company. In addition to his ventures in the oil and gas industry, Mr. Wood has bought and/or formed numerous companies in and around Red Deer, founding and/or president over 20 privately-held companies at a single time. In his career, Mr. Wood has achieved several successes, including programming and drilling the first underbalanced horizontal well in 1987and first short radius 5" horizontal wells in Canada; at one held the record for the longest reach underbalanced well to 4,850 meters; and developed the ground roots for horizontal drilling of gas wells in the late 1980s. Mr. Wood currently holds two patents for underbalanced well control equipment. In 2005, Mr. Wood took High Arctic public with the largest equity financing in Canada in the Energy Trust sector. High Arctic was named the 11th fastest growing company (revenues over $50 million) in Alberta for 2006 in the Alberta Venture 50 Fastest Growing Companies in Alberta. Recently, Mr. Wood was named a regional finalist in the 2006 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards. Mr. Wood serves on the board of directors for several companies, including the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC). |
